[Kimitsu] Acchi Kocchi – 07

Torrent

Holy shit, is this an Acchi Kocchi release before midnight ET?

Anyway, this is a hella rushed job with HorribleSubs-style typesetting, but you know you’re going to download it anyway because it’s the first release out.

If not, have fun waiting for your :effort: signs.

Come talk about the sub at #kimitsu on Rizon!

Gakkatsu! 6

Gakkatsu! 6 is out. And 7’s on the way! Timing/typesetting is all done, at least. Here’s to almost being caught up with the airing! Then I think we should be on our way to more competitive release times (that is, if anybody else were doing these, which they’re not).

Mysterious Girlfriend X Adaptation List

This is mostly for my own purposes (I noticed I was having trouble keeping track), but here is a list of the episodes of the Mysterious Girlfriend X anime adaptation, with the chapters of the original manga from which material was taken. By “material” here, I mean everything from a single shot to lines of dialogue (for example, although chapter 5, “Mysterious Outdoors Pool” is listed as a reference for episode 4, there is no outdoors pool scene; on the flip side, episode 5 has a pool scene, but there’s almost nothing referenced from chapter 5 for said pool scenes, so it’s not listed). Expect stealth edits every week! And of course, if there’s anything I missed, feel free to tell me!

Episode 1 “Mysterious Girlfriend”:

Episode 2 “Mysterious Bond”:

Episode 3 “Mysterious Test Tube”:

  • Chapter 3 “Mysterious Test Tube”
  • Chapter 4 “Mysterious Day when the Wind was Strong”

Episode 4 “Mysterious Girl Meets Girl”

  • Chapter 5 “Mysterious Outdoors Pool”
  • Chapter 7 “Mysterious Girl Meets Girl”
  • Chapter 8 “Mysterious Girl Meets Girl Continued”

Episode 5 “Mysterious First Date”:

Episode 6 “Mysterious Step Up”:

Episode 7 “Mysterious Flu”

Episode 8 “Mysterious Sensation”

Episode 9 “Mysterious ‘Kind of'”

Episode 10 “Mysterious Affair”

  • Chapter 28 “Mysterious Affair”
  • Chapter 29 “Mysterious Letter of Challenge”
  • Chapter 30 “Mysterious Cultural Festival – The Night Before”
  • Chapter 31 “Mysterious Cultural Festival – Part 1”

Episode 11 “Mysterious Cultural Festival”

  • Chapter 31 “Mysterious Cultural Festival – Part 1”
  • Chapter 32 “Mysterious Cultural Festival – Part 2”
  • Chapter 33 “Mysterious Cultural Festival – Part 3”
  • Chapter 34 “Mysterious Cultural Festival (After Party)”

Episode 12 “Mysterious ‘Tug'”

Episode 13 “Mysterious Girlfriend and Boyfriend”

Alternate title: “Gakkatsu! the Fukkatsu

Anyway, yeah, I’m back doing stuff!

First off, CLBC aren’t dead, and in fact, over the past 2 days, we’ve put out 2 episodes of Gakkatsu!, with episode 6 scheduled to be released sometime this weekend (typesetting is done, at the very least). And then we should be caught up with the 1seg airing schedule from there.

A note: I don’t actually do main script translation for Gakkatsu!, but I do a bit of looking over the script and I softsub all of the English signs, so yeah, check it out!

As for Yume Tsukai, the script for chapter 20 has been sitting on my desktop at about 90% complete for weeks now, but I expect to finish it up sometime today, so expect to see that sometime soon!

On a final note, the blog I contribute weekly for with Mysterious Girlfriend X posts, Altair & Vega, is competing against the great アニ・ノート in an anime blog tournament, so check both of them out and vote! Every vote counts (because the numbers are so close)!

Cracking the A-Channel Code

Taking a break for finals week; have this short take on anime cryptography instead.

It’s been almost a year since A-Channel finished its run last spring season, and I imagine most of you out there have forgotten about it already. But there’s always been one part of it that’s bothered me all this time:

This is from the opening sequence, and it’s, at first glance, some kind of code. Now, simple substitution scripts are fairly common in anime: my internet bro franz has written a bunch of posts about them in Madoka MagicaDog Days (this one’s actually a bit more interesting than the others!), The World God Only Knows, and Ano Natsu de Matteru, all of which are pretty sweet reads.

But A-Channel is different. Why? Well, because no one’s been able to figure out the damn thing, as far as I can tell, anyway. So let’s go ahead and make some assumptions about how this works:

  1. Each square is probably a letter (or kana)
  2. It’s probably left-to-right horizontal writing, with the breaks representing word boundaries (spaces)
  3. The decoded plaintext will most likely be Japanese, English, or some wacky subcategory thereof (romanized Japanese, butchered Engrish, etc)

Looking closer, we can see that each box is made up of a 5×5 grid of dots, except each box is missing a bunch of dots, similar to how braille works (except braille uses a grid of 2×6).

So first, let’s transcribe it, because it’s kind of hard to read from those screenshots. I decided to use a 5×5 grid of pixels for each character, which makes it a bit easier to see the underlying shapes (enlarged 4x):

Now we make note of how many unique characters there are. In fact, there are 72(!) unique characters used here; however, many of these have the same shape as other characters, just flipped, rotated, or a combination. Organizing all of these, we get:

There’s no real reason behind the ordering (I just placed them on in order of appearance), and even the separation in the middle there is a bit arbitrary, but nonetheless, you can see that there are 16 base shapes there, one each row.

And… that’s about as far as I’ve gotten. There’s still more to be done, but right now, all I know is that I can’t make sense of it. So have at it, Internet! I believe there is a coherent message there, waiting to be deciphered.

Yume Tsukai 19

Yume Tsukai chapter 19 is out! Er… I haven’t seen the chapter in a while, might add on TL notes after I actually read the Maigo release.
